3 Ways to Boost Your Brainpower
Experiencing memory loss can be common for anyone, regardless of age. We’ve all been there—misplacing our keys, forgetting names and faces, and not remembering to email our coworkers back. While memory loss is frustrating, there are things you can do that can help your brain health.
Some of the methods available for helping to improve memory consist of brain training, eating brain-healthy food, and taking supplements to improve memory. Here are three suggestions for keeping your mind strong and active.
1. Brain Exercises & Training
One of the best natural methods to improve your memory is to train your brain with specific exercises. Memory is like a muscle, and you need to exercise it in order to keep it strong and active.
Brain exercises should be challenging and varied. These exercises can take the form of different types of puzzles, like crosswords or Sudoku.
Other examples of new ways to train and engage your brain include:
Testing your memory. Make a grocery list or a to-do list and then recall it without looking.

Learn a foreign language.

Getting proper nutrition is an important part of staying healthy, and it can be just as important for brain health. There are certain foods that are particularly effective for boosting brain function and memory.
Here are a few of our favorite brain foods:
Wild Salmon is full of omega-3 fatty acids that are important for brain function.
Avocados contribute to healthy blood flow, assisting with the brain’s overall health.
Blueberries (and other dark berries) are packed with antioxidants and other flavonoids that support brain function and memory.
3. Take Dietary Supplements
Just as eating certain foods can benefit your health, there are certain vitamins and minerals that can help, too. If you’re missing certain nutrients in your diet, you can get them through supplements.
Two supplements that could benefit your memory health are Vitamin B Complex and Magnesium. Vitamin B Complex can improve short-term and long-term memory, while magnesium may improve working memory, learning capabilities, and both short- and long-term memory.
In addition to the supplements listed above, there are a few other types of herbs and botanicals that can help improve memory.
Ginseng is another option. One study found that when taken in conjunction with Ginkgo balboa, ginseng significantly improved multiple types of memory, including working memory and long-term memory.
Rosemary doesn’t need to be ingested in order to help brain function; researchers have found that just smelling rosemary essential oil can improve speed and accuracy when performing certain tasks.
