Mindful and Healthy Eating During the Holidays

Yes, it’s true. We are officially approaching the Holiday Season and all the trimmings that go with it. Keeping things balanced in all areas over the Holidays can be a challenge. We usually have a busier social schedule that can result in eating richer foods, drinking more alcohol, getting less sleep and feeling more stressed. The holidays are meant to be full of fun and joy but often create anxiety for many as expectations, ours or others, of the holidays are met or not met. How do we keep it together to enjoy the most from this celebratory time of year? One way is to keep Health Eating a priority MOST of the time. I’ve talked before about the 80/20 rule, and during the next two months, it might look more like 70/30, but if we can eat the majority of the time in a mindful, healthy way, we keep our mind and body balanced overall, and not a victim to sugar highs and lows from too many deserts, wine, or those decadent chocolate truffles that keep showing up everywhere!!! Commit to having a fresh vegetable salad every day and maybe add in a green smoothie most mornings with some organic protein added. This will go a long way to boosting your nutrient intake to keep your immune system strong. Add in a selection of adaptogens that will help nourish your adrenals and nervous system to keep you grounded and balanced. As always, be sure to stay properly hydrated! Higher alcohol and coffee consumption is dehydrating! Double up and use a pinch of Himalayan salt or an Electrolyte Blend in your water each day.
